Geography

Vileyka District is part of Minsk Oblast and is located in its northwestern part.

The lands of the district border the Myadel, Molodechno and Logoysk districts of Minsk, Dokshitsy – Vitebsk, Smarhon – Grodno oblasts.

Vileyka District is among the five largest in Minsk Oblast. The territory of the district occupies 2.4 thousand square kilometers, of which 41% is covered by forests.

The main part of the district is located within the boundaries of the Naroch-Vileyka Lowland.

The district has 405 rural settlements, in which 18,791 people live, and the city of Vileyka with a population of – 26,015 people.

The territory of the district is divided into 11 village councils: Vyazynsky, Dolginovsky, Izhsky, Ilyansky, Krivoselsky, Kurenetsky, Lyubansky, Lyudvinovsky, Narochansky, Osipovichsky, Khotenchitsky.

Vileyka is located in a picturesque area on the right bank of the Viliya River. In 1974, near the city, the largest artificial reservoir in the republic was built – the Vileyka Reservoir – with an area of about 64 square kilometers and a volume of 238 million m³. The huge reservoir stretches 27 km in length. Its greatest width is – 3.6 km, its greatest depth is – 14 m.

The length of the district’s territory from north to south is 58 km, from west to east – 73 km. The Molodechno – Polotsk railway line and roads of republican significance pass through the district.
